I want a place to takes notes on ideas. They form something like a vision. Not sure myself … But this is how I start. My manifesto.

Da Manifesto of T

Some basic assumptions that guide my thinking for the future are:

  • Everything should be open source.
  • Everything should be encrypted as far as sensible.
  • Everything should be distributed as far as possible.
  • Everything should be usable as easy as possible.

Everything basically means everything. On the long run. And that’s an ordered list actually, priority-wise. Only if you can check how something works in detail, you can assume it to be secure. Therefore it needs to be open source. In the light of Snowden everything should be encrypted. Distribution (aka federation) seems to quite a challenge still, in many aspects. But we need it to get rid of single-point-of-failures. While I2P has brought federation to the network level, the information infrastructure used in it also had problems due to central plattforms disappearing for example. And then there is usability. Always. While I like to fiddle around and experiment, most people “just want to use” IT. And here we have a big gap I assume.

Some notes about some basic principles I (try to) follow.

  • Hacker

Hacking and hackers. Some think about blackhats here, but for me hacking is just an open and creative way to approach things. I tend to like people that do so. The badge is cool gimmick to show one likes that style. But it should also show you, that what I present here are hacks not products. So use your brain. I am happy if you can use information provided by me. But remember it’s your responsibility to check everything for yourself before application.

  • Open Knowledge

Free software and knowledge is key to getting anywhere in a sensible way I think. While Richard Stallman, the FSF and the GPL are the cornerstones of this, OpenKnowledge is an organisation that does promote this open scheme internationally. OpenDefinition is a website of them with explanations on licenses. And this badge. In summary for my information: You are welcome to share and use it, but please provide attribution. More details in case you need them in the about page, including license information.

I will explain some more about all this at some other point. But for now and in short that shall be sufficient.
